Here’s what’s cookin’ Round Steak Roll Ups
Recipe from the kitchen of Jan Marwitz
Serves 4
Ingredients
- 1 ½ lb. round steak*
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 6 Tbsp. bacon drippings
- 2 cups day old bread crumbs
- ½ cup chopped celery
- ½ tsp. salt
- ¼ tsp. sage
- Dash of pepper and poultry seasoning
- 1 Tbsp. water
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
* Cubed steak may be substituted.
Directions
Remove bone and fat and thoroughly flatten steak.
Brown onions in 3 Tbsp. of drippings. Add crumbs, celery, seasonings, water.
Cut meat into 4 pieces, place ¼ crumb dressing on each. Roll up and fasten with a toothpick.
Dilute soup with can of water, pour over meat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour.
Notes
- 6 Tbsp. bacon drippings are listed but only 3 Tbsp. are called for in the directions — the rest is presumably for browning the rolled steak.
